why are we all so concerned about "Architects" & not enough about "Architecture"?!! Meaning the many conversations on architects salaries, working hours, opportunities, incomes, treatment etc. Not to say that the above are not important.
But, honestly, the narrative of concentration being mostly focoused on them is -say- too pedestrian!!
Now, what about the issues of a lack of position of "Architecture" in the societal mind space? Or of the rise of the "commercial" as a style . Yeah, only ism around seems Commercialism-), as in comparison to Brutalism, modernism et al-/ Or of the reasons why emerging Architecture is so vendor driven. Or why Exposed concrete as an expression appeals only to Architects?!!-) Is every resulting act of construction - Architecture? & Many Many more.
& to further note the developing lack of position of Architecture in Infrastructure, Construction & maybe Urbanism!! That it is reduced to the whims & discions of - who? The societal mindscape can well appreciate product design, art, & even sartorial fashion- but come Architecture- modernism & Brutalism- Ah!! ?!! The Author recently saw images of an proposed IIM by a leading "Architects" firm- carrying the expression of the colonial grandeur of university of Roorkee main building!! & let us remind ourselves of airport terminals that look like temples!! Now, you see the drift?!! All above gain the "Architect"- what suffers is "Architecture".
Now,
A theory ( mine of course-), proposed that if the latter, i.e. "Architecture" can be put in the centre stage of the dialogue, the former would benefit- fast & fortuitous. The dialogue, of course, hopefully would give the profession renewed standing, meaning & position- & thereby earnings too. Probably easing other ills including the low quality of the entrants in the filed ( read poor education). The Theorem is of course sketchy, but possible to work around.
Amen.
